C’est l’inclinaison de la Terre qui est la cause de cette variation de la durée du jour au courant de l’année. Comme une année solaire dure 365,26 jours, il y a un décalage d’à peu près 6 heures. C’est d’ailleurs le but des années bissextiles : replacer les saisons aux bons endroits! C’est ce qui permet de conserver le calendrier civil synchronisé avec le calendrier solaire.

Pour connaître la date et l‘heure exacte d’arrivée d’une saison, il faut considérer la position du Soleil par rapport à la Terre. Ainsi, lorsque les rayons directs du Soleil arrivent du côté de l’équateur, c’est soit le début de l’automne, ou le printemps.
